Myself

My name is John  Lee Harris and I was born in 1969, in Wichita KS, where I still live to this day.  I am the sole owner and service technician here at DaJH Diagnostics, with over 40 years of experience as an electrical and mechanical service  technician.

My swimming pool and spa career began in 1985, at Silver Springs Apartment Complex in west Wichita, when I was 16 years old. I spent  the summers cleaning and maintaining the pool and pool  equipment until I graduated from Derby High School in 1987, and got my first full-time job at Grede Foundries, where I worked as an industrial maintenance technician.

A few years later in 1989, I went to work for my new brother-in-law Steve Campbell, the owner of Pro-Care Pools and Spas.  At the time, Steve was one of the very best, pool and spa technicians in the city of Wichita. (Although at that time there were only about five or six pool companies in the entire city.) I spent 4 years with Steve, learning the ins and outs of pool and spa diagnostics and repair, until he went out of business in 1993 due to health reasons. Then from 1993 to 1995 I was the lead service technician for Becky Dragoo, the owner and manager of the Cal-Spas store on West Kellogg. After Cal-Spas, I took a little vacation from the pool and spa industry.

The next five or six years I spent working as an industrial maintenance technician, at Sharpening Specialists, Smith Fiberglass, and Pepsi Bottling Group. The additional, experience and knowledge I gained, as an industrial maintenance technician, allowed me to increasie my diagnostic and repair skills exponentially and further enhanced my understanding of electrical circuits and mechanical operations to a level far beyond that of most pool and spa technicians.

In the year 2000, I rejoined the ranks of pool and spa technicians when I became the lead service technician for Ahhs Spas until they closed their doors in 2002.

Two weeks later,  I got a 2nd shift job working 3:30 to midnight, at Envision's manufacturing plant, as an industrial maintenance technician and 2nd shift assistant supervisor. I had been working at Envision for about four months, when I made the decision to start my own Pool and Spa company called Advantech Spa Repairs.  Less than a month later I was the proud owner and operator of my own pool and spa service company. For almost five years, I worked for myself, on pools and spas, from around 7am to 2pm, then worked nights at Envision from 3:30pm to Midnight, 5 days a week and most Saturday's as well. Despite the long hours, life was good and all was well.

Near the end of 2006, life happened. After a series of unfortunate events, I had to shut Advan-Tech Spa Repair down. Not long after, my career at Envision ended as well.  For the next 4 or 5 years, I once again worked as an industrial maintenance technician for Precision Pattern, Koch Glitch,  and Central Plains Appliance Repair.

Then, quite unexpectedly, in March, of 2010, I was approached by Chris Femer, the service manager at Ultra Modern Pool and Patio, and was offered a position in their pool and spa, repair department. I agreed to his terms, and started working for Ultra Modern the very next week. It was one of the best decisions I had ever made and I have spent the last 15, wonderful, years as their lead, service technician and trainer. It was hard to say goodbye to my family at Ultra Modern, but unfortunately, age and injury teamed up and finally convinced me that my career as an on-site pool and spa service technician was officially over.

So finally, there I was, having accepted the fact that I was no longer, physically able to do my job, but unwilling to sit back, do nothing, and let 40 years of accumulated, pool and spa, diagnostics experience and knowledge just fade away. And that brings to the here and now.
